Our week of learning about wild weather began with a violent windstorm in our city. This was what we woke up to on Monday morning:
Today we read books about stormy weather, and did some experiments. Our first one was "Tornado in a Jar" (water plus dish soap):
This "Tornado in a Glass" was made with carbonated water plus salt:
Then we learned about what happens when a hurricane hits a beach and why there is flooding:
Finally, using frozen blue ice cubes and room temperature red dye, we learned about how warm air/water rises above the cooler air/water and how this can cause storms to happen:
